Aug 4 (Reuters) - Futures tracking Canada's commodity-heavy stock index edged higher on Tuesday as oil climbed against uncertainty over the Middle East conflict, while gold prices were steady.
September futures tracking the S&P/TSX Composite index were up 0.7% at 06:00 a.m. ET, with domestic markets set to open after a long holiday weekend.
Oil prices rebounded as a diplomatic resolution to the Middle East conflict remained uncertain, while disruptions to energy flows through key shipping routes persisted.
Brent crude futures rose 2.8% after dropping 7% in the previous session to a three-week low, while West Texas Intermediate Crude gained 2.4%.
Gold prices were steady as investors weighed mixed signals over the U.S. Federal Reserve's interest-rate path and monitored ongoing dvelopments in the Middle East, while copper prices advanced, supported by falling inventories.
Spot gold was little changed at $4,048.84 per ounce, while silver gained 0.9%.
Investors were also digesting second-quarter results from specialty semiconductor producer 5N Plus (VNP.TO), which topped earnings estimates late on Monday.
Meanwhile, at least three brokerages downgraded Telus (T.TO), after the telecom provider's quarterly results.
A host of energy firms and miners including Suncor Energy (SU.TO), and Orla Mining (OLA.TO), among others, are set to report quarterly results after the bell.
On Friday, the benchmark index dipped as a slump in gold prices weighed on mining shares, although it still notched a fourth consecutive monthly gain.
